The
experience I gained at MIT and Abbott Laboratories Research Division can
provide valuable insight in the areas of natural product synthesis and
drug discovery. I understand that the institute of Chemistry at Karachi
is one of the best equipped organizations in the third world countries.
These advances have lead to numerous groups in the area of natural
product isolation and structure elucidation under Dr.Atta-ur-RehmanÔÇÖs
leadership. In order to make a larger impact in the chemical community
abroad, it would be beneficial to the university to develop
synthetically oriented groups.
An introduction into this area of research would stimulate the
curiosity and creativity of the newly developing chemists. In the long
term this provides Pakistani chemists with worldwide recognition in the
field of synthetic organic chemistry.
